Free Entry


Logo GentianAs a member of the Friends you enjoy free entry to the gardens during public opening hours all year, on selected days over the Christmas period when the gardens are closed to the public and until dusk between 1 March - 31 October. 

During opening hours just show your membership card at the Admissions Desk. After opening hours please have your membership card with you in case of occasional security checks.  

1 November - 28 February (except Christmas).

The Garden is open 10am - 4.30pm.

The Visitor Centre Shop & Plant Sales Area is open 10am - 4.30pm.

Our Cafe is open 9.30-4.30pm (last orders 4pm).

1 March - 31 October

The Garden is open 10am - dusk. Last admission to the Garden is 5pm. After last admission time please use the exit gates from the main drive or the Terraces as the Visitor Centre will be closed.

The Visitor Centre Shop & Plant Sales Area is open 10am - 5pm.

Our Cafe is open 9.30am-5pm (last orders 4.30pm).

After 5pm, please use the Friends gate by the main drive to access and exit the Gardens as the Visitor Centre will be closed. There is also an exit gate from the Terraces.  The toilets next to the Potting Sheds will be open.

Friends also gain free entry to the following Gardens

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew & Wakehurst Palace

Oxford Botanic Garden

Birmingham Botanic Gardens

Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh and its satellite gardens: at Benmore, Argyll. at Dawyck, Scottish Borders & at Logan, Dumfries & Galloway.

These are the only gardens where reciprocal arrangements apply and each venue has its own entry requirements. Prior to your visit, please check the venue's own website for details.

Free Entry to the Gardens for Friends is granted at the discretion of the University of Liverpool

Occasionally, due to an event taking part in the Gardens, free entry may be suspended and Friends will have to pay the event admission price in order to enter the Gardens.

The Gardens stage events throughout the year and it may necessary to close the gardens or part of the gardens early, to all Friends and visitors, in order to set up events.

In cases of extreme bad weather, it will be necessary to close the Gardens to all Friends and visitors on grounds of safety.

There will be occasions when the Gardens (or part of the Gardens) are closed to all Friends and visitors for maintenance and development.

We will endeavour to notify all Friends and visitors, of such closures with as much notice as possible, via the website, Ness Garden Facebook page and twitter feed @ness_gardens.
