Dr Hugh McAllister awarded the Veitch Memorial Medal

Dr Hugh McAllister has been awarded the Veitch Memorial Medal for "outstanding contribution to the advancement and improvement of the science and practice of horticulture".

Hugh was the Gardens resident botanist from 1972 to 1997 and continued to work at Ness until his retirement in 2010.  He is responsible for the seed lists used by many botanic gardens and he is also a leading authority on Sorbus trees, a subject on which he has literally written the book!
