Ness Wins Sustainable Tourism Award

Winner Sustainable Tourism Award

Ness has won the Marketing Cheshire Sustainable Tourism Award 2013!
The award was made at a gala evening at Tatton Park on 28th November. The award has been designed to reward tourism businesses who can illustrate their excellence and commitment to sustainability best practice.

Ness Botanic Gardens won the award due to the many ways staff and volunteers manage:

•  energy consumption including the commitment to green energy with the installation of the solar panel array

•  water use and waste from the gardens usage of rainwater for watering and recycling efforts

•  educational & training services from key stage 1 through to adults

•  encouraging wildlife through sensitive gardening practices and the wilderness project

•  supporting the local economy through activities such as formation of and leading of the CH64 transport group which was instrumental to the retention of local bus services within the community in the face of local government funding cuts.

Visit England QAVA

Ness Gardens has also been raising its profile with the national tourist board, VisitEngland, accreditation scheme. This year's 'mystery shopper' inspection has resulted in a 'Very Good' classification. Plans afoot for next season should raise us to the category of 'Excellent'. This national Quality Assurance scheme involves checks on all aspects of the venue.
