A native of Western Europe , this is commonly known as spindle tree. It has hard dense wood which was used to make spindles for traditional looms. 

A small deciduous shrub or tree only growing to 3 metres. It has good bright red autumn colour. The decorative pink fruit containing the bright orange seed pods will  remain into early winter.

A common plant in the British countryside found in ancient hedges and woodlands, and is often seen as an ancient woodland indicator species. These plants are from Veľká Fatra National Park in Slovakia, a beautiful area in the high Carpathian Mountains clothed in thick beech forests.
