Family Science Fair

For the fourth year running we are proud to be hosting this FREE family event.

Lots of hands-on activities and demonstrations brought to you by experts from the University of Liverpool and other organisations as part of British Science Week.

In addition there is FREE Garden Entry for teachers  (please bring ID) to discover our schools programme.

Hands-on activities include:

  • Whizz, Bang, Whoosh - Chemistry and physics fun with the British Science Association.
  • Garden Detectives - What weird and wonderful things have happened to these plants?
  • Butterfly Smart - Where do they hide?
  • Bee Crazy - How many bees can you find, BEEcome an expert?
  • Herbarium Crafts - Make a beautiful Mother's Day or Birthday card with real flowers.
  • Waste not Want not - Compost crazy.
  • What's in the Water? - Discover the invisible life in our oceans.
  • Plants, Microbes and Global Warming - Friends or foes?
  • Who works at the Zoo? Chester Zoo's safari rangers and zoo jobs.

FREE Family Show in the Lecture Theatre - repeated at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm:

  • Pick of the Pack Show - Exciting science demonstrations by Techniquest, Wrexham.

Free Activities in the Garden (garden admission applies):

Follow the Wildlife Explorer's Trail from 10 am - 5pm leading to the Bushcraft area to discover the Science of Fire (learn to burn).

Trial takes about 1 hour. Bushcraft open from 12noon - 4pm

If that wasn't enough there are also 64 acres of gardens to explore and our play area.

Don't forget children enter our Photography Competiton for free.

Who is it suitable for?

Families -  children aged 5-12 yrs                      

What does it cost?

All activities are free and included in your normal garden admission.

Free entry for teachers (please bring ID).
