RHS Level 2: Garden features, plant selection and planning

This course will allow you to understand and put into practice
basic surveying, design principles and to apply them to good garden
design and planning
This courses starts on Thursday 6
November 1-30pm 6 weekly sessions.
The course is taught through talks; demonstrations and a range
of activities both in the classroom and out in the gardens (weather
permitting). Please come dressed in suitable clothing for the
weather (i.e. waterproof jackets and wear suitable shoes). Also
bring pen and paper.
Week 1 - Where to start & site appraisals
Week 2 - Measuring gardens and scale drawings
Week 3 - Basic garden planning principles; shape, symmetry,
asymmetry, colour, focal points and movement
Week 4 - Characteristics of accepted garden design styles;
formality and informality, Landscape, Knot Gardens, Cottage gardens
and ecological related plantings.
Week 5 - Effective and appropriate use of hard landscaping
Week 6 - Planting plans and effective use of plants
This course is a module of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the
Principles of Horticulture. The RHS Level 2 is taught at Ness
on a rolling programme of eight modules, each lasting 6 weeks. You
can begin at the start of any module and study as many modules as
out more about the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of
18+. There are no formal entry requirements; although the course
is aimed at gardeners with some experience or those who have
completed some level 1 courses.
