RHS Level 3 Specialist Elements in the Establishment of Garden and Urban Planting

RHS-QUALIFICATIONS-MARK-RGBv1Are you a keen gardener, passionate about plants and wanting to learn more? Do you want to start or develop your exisiting career in horticulture?

This module provides an understanding of the relevance of plant anatomy and physiology to  propagation by seed, spores and vegetative methods. In addition the module examines the management of the production process, associated equipment and aftercare.

This module starts on Wednesday 1st March 1-4pm 6 weekly sessions.

Course Overview

The course is taught through talks; demonstrations and a range of activities both in the classroom and out in the gardens (weather permitting).  Please come dressed in suitable clothing for the weather (i.e. waterproof jackets and wear suitable shoes). Also bring pen and paper.

Week 1 - Establishment and management of a range of specialist areas; woodland, prairie & wildflower meadow.

Week 2 - Establishment and management of a range of specialist areas; Sensory, potager, courtyards & containers gardens.

Week 3 - Establishment and management of a range of specialist areas; roof gardens, living walls & green roofs.

Week 4 - Establishment and management of a range of specialist areas; street plantings, community gardens & amenity bedding.

Week 5 - Water use and conservation.

Week 6 - Specialist pruning techniques; pollarding, pleaching, topiary & cloud pruning.

 

This course is a module of the RHS Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture.  The RHS Level 3 is taught at Ness on a rolling programme of eight modules, each lasting 6 weeks. You can begin at the start of any module and study as many modules as you like.

Who is it suitable for?

18+. There are no formal entry requirements; although the course is aimed at gardeners with experience or those who have completed the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture or equivalent.
