RHS Level 3: The Management of Plant Health

The module provides the underpinning knowledge of pest and disease life cycles and plant disorders. It provides knowledge of control methodology and sources of information on relevant legislation

This module starts on Wednesday 20th September 1-4pm 6 weekly sessions.

Course Overview

The course is taught through talks; demonstrations and a range of activities both in the classroom and out in the gardens (weather permitting).  Please come dressed in suitable clothing for the weather (i.e. waterproof jackets and wear suitable shoes). Also bring pen and paper.

Week 1 - Challenges facing the UK horticultural industry

Week 2 - Symptoms and life cycles of pests

Week 3 - Symptoms and life cycles of diseases

Week 4 - Characteristics and biology of weeds

Week 5 - Control of pests, diseases and weeds in horticulture

Week 6 - The use of biosecurity measures.


This course is a module of the RHS Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture.  The RHS Level 3 is taught at Ness on a rolling programme of eight modules, each lasting 6 weeks. You can begin at the start of any module and study as many modules as you like.

Who is it suitable for?

18+. There are no formal entry requirements; although the course is aimed at gardeners with experience or those who have completed the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture or equivalent.

£70 per module (No concessions)
