Tuesday RHS Level 2: Plant Nutrition and the Root Environment

RHS-QUALIFICATIONS-MARK-RGBv1Are you a keen gardener, passionate about plants and wanting to learn more? Or do you want to start a career in horticulture?

This course will allow you to develop an understanding of the constituents, properties and management of soils and growing media vital to all gardens.

This course starts on Tuesday 19th September 1-3.30pm 6 weekly sessions.

A second RHS Level 2 class starts on Thursday 21st September

Course Overview

The course is taught through talks; demonstrations and a range of activities both in the classroom and out in the gardens (weather permitting).  Please come dressed in suitable clothing for the weather (i.e. waterproof jackets and wear suitable shoes). Also bring pen and paper.

Week 1 - What is soil and how it is formed.

Week 2 - Identifying soil characteristics such as texture and structure.

Week 3 - Water in soil, watering and drainage.

Week 4 - The role and sources of organic matter in the soil.

Week 5 - Soil pH and plant nutrients.

Week 6 - The characteristics and uses of growing media.

This course is a module of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture.  The RHS Level 2 is taught at Ness on a rolling programme of eight modules, each lasting 6 weeks. You can begin at the start of any module and study as many modules as you like.

Who is it suitable for?

18+. There are no formal entry requirements; although the course is aimed at gardeners with some experience or those who have completed some level 1 courses.

What does it cost?

£65 (£60 Friends of Ness Gardens) per module
