Woodcarving: Birds

Develop your wood carving skills with expert guidance from renowned wood carver John White. Students will learn the basics of bird carving and produce a three-dimensional carving of a kingfisher.

The course is taught over two days Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August (10am-4pm)

Course Overview

All students will require some basic drawing equipment and should bring any carving tools and sharpening equipment they have (a limited selection of tools will be available to borrow during the course).

  • Pencil, rubber & ruler
  • Tri square
  • Note book
  • Sketch pad
  • Tracing paper
  • Carbon paper
  • Tools and sharpening equipment
  • Small tenon saw

Day 1 - design, drawing, modeling and roughing out.

Day 2 - shaping, detailing, building, tool selection and maintenance.


Who is it suitable for?

18+. There are no formal entry requirements; however this course is for those who have some previous carving experience and want to develop their skills.

What does it cost?

£140 includes materials. There is a £50 non-refundable deposit.
