Woodcarving for Beginners

Get started on this fascinating craft with expert guidance from renowned wood carver John White.

The course is taught over two days Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June (10am-4.30pm)

The course is designed to teach students the basic techniques needed in all types of carving.  The course covers:

  • Pattern and design development.
  • Setting out.
  • Tool selection and sharpening
  • Relief carving and associated techniques.

Participants will produce a pattern board of basic cuts that are designed to develop tool control and precision. They will also produce a relief carving to take home.  Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace in friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

All tools & materials supplied.


Who is it suitable for?

18+. There are no formal entry requirements and is suitable for complete beginners or those with a little experience.

What does it cost?

£150 (£135 Friends of Ness Gardens).
