Wirral Potteres 1.jpegWirral Potters was founded in 1973 by a group of enthusiastic local potters, eager to exchange ideas, develop their craft and hold exhibitions of their work each year. The first of these was held in a disused waiting room of Hoylake
Station.  Since then the group has been invited to exhibit at the University of Liverpool, Senate House, The Bluecoat
Display Centre, Wern Gallery, Nannerch, the Williamson Art Gallery, Ness Gardens and Theatre Clwyd Cymru.

Every year Wirral Potters hosts an evening which attracts interested potters and collectors from around the area.  An internationally known ceramic artist is invited to talk and demonstrate. This event has become an annual feature in the pottery calendar.  Over the last 17 years, well-known figures, namely Walter Keeler, Jim Robison, David Roberts, Toff Millway, Ian Gregory, John Calver, Phil Rogers, Ruthanne Tudball, Josie Walter, Emma Rodgers, Peter Hayes, Duncan Ayscough, Rob Whelpton, David Frith, Tim Andrews, Mark Smith and last year our enthusiastic audience enjoyed a demonstration  given by Nick Marsh which was inspiring and entertaining.

Membership of our group is limited to twenty potters, ensuring a good range and variety of work.  Each member is a Wirral Potteres 6.jpegproductive potter.  All have received full or part-time Art School training.  Some are teachers of the craft and others are full time potters or enthusiastic amateurs working from kitchen, garage or studio workshop. The range varies considerably and includes functional thrown and slab built ware, stylistic bird sculptures and other colourful, decorative pieces.  There are currently 17 members in the group.
